Our Lady of Grace cathedral - La catedral .
This is the most preeminent building in Cuenca.
Is contruction began in 1196, and it ended in 1257.
It is the first gothic style Cathedral in Spain (together with Avila's one), because of the influence of Alfonso VIII wife, Leonor de Plantagenet, from Aquitaine (ffrance), who introduced the anglo-normand style.
From that date the cathedral has suffered some changes.
A marvellous apse-aisle (doble girola) was added in the XV century, renancetist Esteban Jamete's Arch was erected in the XVI century, the main altar was redesigned during the XVIII century (it features an astonishing iron-work gate) and the façade was rebuilt in the early XX century from ruins due to the collapse of the former bell tower, the Giraldo.
In the early 90s modern coloured windows were installed, and in 2006 the old baroque organ from Julián de la Orden was recovered.
